Process Model

Bookstore Data Process Model

Our process model is representative of the bookstores book ordering system.
It is very outdated and it takes the user a long time to find an order number because it
is a spreadsheet that has every order since the bookstore first opened.
The roles in our process are customer, bookstore, Bookstore Co., and the other bookstore.
The process starts by the customer ordering the book. The bookstore receives the order, then
checks to see if they have the book in stock. If they do, they find the book then give it to the customer.
If they do not, they contact Bookstore Co.. Bookstore Co. receives that order and contacts a different
bookstore to see if they have the book. The other bookstore receives that order. The other book store
checks to see if they have that book. If they do, they send it to our bookstore who originally asked for it.
If they do not have the book, they contact Bookstore Co. and Bookstore Co. has to contact our bookstore
to let them know they do not have it and cannot get it. If our bookstore receives the book, they tell the
customer that they have the book they ordered. If our bookstore tells the customer they have the book,
the customer decides whether they want to pick it up or if they want it delivered. If the customer wants it
delivered, they email the store for it to be delivered, then their book is delivered and the process ends. If
the customer wants to pick it up, they go and pick up the book and the process ends. If the book was not
available, the customer has no book and the process ends.
The data repository collects all of the book orders. A data repository is “a collection of data that is
stored within the business process. Repositories can be computer databases, or they can be collections
of files in the cloud, or they can be printed records stored in a file cabinet or a shoebox” (Kroenke, 2014).
Everything in the process model goes into the data repository. It collects the orders so it can be sent out
to the other bookstores so they can see if they have the book that is needed.
